Updated advice on VEU compliance requirements

Yesterday, 30 September 2020, the Essential Services Commission issued further advice on COVID-19 requirements under the VEU program.

 

What energy efficiency activities are permitted and when?

For the Second Step (Restricted): (current step for metropolitan Melbourne)

Replacement and critical repairs of solar systems, energy appliances and energy consuming equipment allowed for safety and/or emergency reasons. On-site energy management where essential for safety or for the operation of a Permitted Work Premise.

Residential premises allowed for:

  •  vacant premises only

Energy efficiency activities are permitted in non-residential premises, provided:

  •  vacant premises

  •  outdoor works/external to the premises

  •  premises that can be vacated (i.e. after hours or weekends)

  •  plant and equipment rooms and spaces allowed (i.e. not occupied spaces)

  •  temporarily unoccupied (i.e. vacating of immediate worksite area), with physical distancing and appropriate signage and barriers 

  • Outdoor lighting planned upgrades (e.g. street, carpark) is allowed

  • Door-knocking for sales and lead generation is not allowed.

We will continue to engage the ESC to be consistent and reasonable in their VEEC eligibility rulings, irrespective of when they were completed.
